This is the first large-scale floating solar plant in Europe, financed by Triodos Groenfonds and exploited by GroenLeven. GroenLeven is the market leader in the development of large-scale solar power projects in the Netherlands, specialising in solar farms with a dual purpose. This floating solar plan is located on a lake created as a result of sand extraction. The special panels let light through, so that plants and animals that live in the water underneath are affected as little as possible. Flora and fauna are monitored on a continuous basis, and in fact the sheltered areas actually turned out to attract waterfowls. The construction method developed by GroenLeven was tested extensively, in order to ensure that it has no negative impact on the environment and is also able to withstand the impact of wind and waves. In a densely populated country like the Netherlands, this is a landmark project for the dual use of scarce space.
