This solar park is a shining example of effective use of space on a landfill site that has been given a second, green, lease of life. Residents of the municipality of Eerbeek spotted the old disused landfill site on the outskirts of their village as an opportunity to join forces in their quest for sustainability. From the 1960s until 2001 this site had been used mainly for dumping paper pulp. The owner of the landfill site proved interested to give it a new purpose and now just under half of the 13 hectares landfill area has been transformed into a solar park (an area of 12 soccer fields). Because the landfill site was not even and the surface was covered with little mounds, an even plateau was designed together with the landowner to achieve the optimum orientation of the panels. The project was created by BrummenEnergy co-operative, social development company Solar Green Point and investors Oost NL and Triodos Groenfonds.
