As the European Commission is defining its priorities for food and agriculture for the next five years, there is a unique opportunity to position diverse, sustainable protein sources — plant, animal, and novel — as essential, complementary pillars of Europe’s future food system. The coalition members have identified recommendations to ensure sustainable protein diversification delivers maximum benefits for all. Amongst our recommendations are for the  EU to build a system that:

  • Supports farmers with better incomes and more resilient, sustainable businesses
  • Supports sustainable agricultural production that  increases rural resilience and preserves vibrant landscapes
  • Drives European food innovation — such as regenerative agriculture, and
  • Creates a healthier food environment that gives consumers access to a healthy and affordable diet

We stand ready to support the Commission in building a sustainable, healthy, thriving, and diverse protein sector that secures a resilient future for Europe.
